Original Species: Camelope
Camelids are one of the mammalian groups that cannot be found on any continent of my fantasy world; they simply haven't evolved. There are no dromedary camels, no bactrian camel, no llamas or alpacas. Still, the presence of desert habitats on both Arcadia and Elysium did result in the convergent evolution of other herbivorous animals to fill in the camel role and utilize similar evolutionary solutions. On Arcadia specifically, the animals that took this particular path were the antelopes, resulting in the emergence of the so-called "Camelope".
The Camelope is a fairly large species of ungulate that resides in the arid areas located at the center of the Arcadian Continent. Its long legs allow it to travel vast distances in search of both food and water, while its long neck serves to increase its field of view and give access to a wider variety of edible plants. Much like in the case of Earth's camels, any excess nutrients and water that the Camelope consumes end up stored in a small hump on the animal's back. This adaptation emerged fairly recently, which is why the aforementioned hump looks less prominent than in its Earthly counterparts.
As a fairly recently described species, people are yet to make attempts at domesticating the Camelope. It is still unknown whether these animals are susceptible to domestication, especially since they might still possess the typical antelope "skittishness". More research needs to be conducted before drawing any substantial conclusions.
As a less serious side note: the sole inspiration behind this creature was the song "Camel by Camel" (some may know it better as "The Ankha Dance meme") and my personal need to restrict myself by not having camel be present within my fantasy world, but at the same time, wanting to have an analog. And that is how the Camelope was born.
