After a long day of family time Milkshake looked at herself in the mirror, she looked a mess, a smiling, awkward mess. She woke up to her dad knocking on her and her sister's door telling them to hurry and get ready for the day, she immediately tried to slam her head back into pillow her head genuinely not ready to greet the warm glow from her thick curtains. With a moment of bliss she almost makes a full effort before a soft hand shakes her shoulder gently, "Morning Milkshake, Happy Birthday." Moony smiles lightly as she gestures that they start getting ready.
"Thanks Moons, but why are we getting up so early..." she pauses before clarifying, "I mean, I know that they wanna drag me across town and go to other places before we end up back here and..." She sighed, surrendering to her better judgement and getting into the shower, readying herself and dressing into her own style of very confused clothing choices, as per the usual.
While painting her makeup, her outfit chosen and scrutinized heavily by her reflection, Moonshadow arrives from the bathroom and begins her own routine, not taking nearly half the time to decide on an outfit, and hurriedly stepping toward her bed. From it she pulls out a small pouch and approaches her big sister with a big smile on her face, holding the pouch to Milky shaking a little as the white pony asked, "What's this?" her voice a mixture of surprise and anticipation.
"I, I wanted to give you something nice, to show you a part of my... umm feeling about our, uhh..." Milkshake having opened the pouch stood slowly, her mouth agape as she smiled and gripped the little black bunny into a hug and thanked her. She asks while breaking the hug, "Where did you get this?"
"I actually made it, I wanted it to be more personal, you... you helped me come out of my shell and I wanted to give you something nice."
"I love it, thank you" the item in the pouch was a little hair accessory, with obviously painted metal and coloured transparent rock grafted into it. Milky wasted no time placing it into her hair along with what little else needed doing.
The day was long and fraught with Milky being treated to her favourite places to eat when with the family for breakfast and a couple of stops in some stores, Raven and Beatrice left Milks to look after Chuckles and Moonshadow for a second whilst they went into the huge mega clothes store Sededgars, alone in the little craft shop as Milks and Moons bantered back and forth about the charming shapes of the homemade trinkets that sparkled and some others that looked ominous and darker. "Happy Birthday from me on my own" Milkshake felt a stern hug come from behind as the crop top she wore did diddly against the all too familiar insectoid scales that pressed against her skin. "Chuckles, what have I told you about yelling in stores? And surprising me from behind?"
Chuckles breaks the hug and thinks for a moment, "I can't remember, which means it's not really a bad thing."
"No Chuckles, we don't cause scenes in stores because I don't like making a commotion..."
"What's a commotion?" Chuckles asks.
"It's..." Milkshake takes a breathe to calm down before asking, "What is it chuck?"
"I got something for you," the you bug beams as he holds out a double feathered accessory, One part green and one part brown.
"Wait Chucks, did you, did you buy this yourself?"
"No, I asked Moony to help me make it, we made it together and, well" he looks at the little bunny behind his oldest sister with a face of determination, "It was still my idea" He says seemingly proud of the fact that he made this assortment of feathers to mean something.
"Actually," Moonshadow starts, "it was something we wanted to combine at first, but Dad said it'd probably be nice if we separated them and let you decide how you wanted to wear them." Milkshake couldn't help but smile, she grabbed a hold of her little bro into a bear hug, lifting him up as he laughed and playfully demanded she let him go. A series of thank you's arriving from Milky as she began setting him down. She then looked to the Bunny who'd taken so much of her time to make this silly little gift, this beautiful display of her care and love for her sister. And in a moment she gripped both of them into something of a sibling hug, her face blushing slightly as the irony of her public display betrayed her desires, and she didn't care, not least of all because of her two younger siblings.
Later on they would arrive back home, Milkshake, adamant about not wanting a big party was given a small gathering of people she knew, One of her few friends from school, Peachy was her name. Void and his Boyfriend Astra, Joker and his flame Euphimia, and of course Grandma Braix. The 'party' was modest but still really enjoyable as the boys, save for Astra were out Braaiing(Barbequeing) the meat and the ladies along side Beatrice made the more healthy dishes for the night. A time passes before Beatrice calls Milky to the kitchen, linked to the lounge and passage from which Milkshake would appear. She walks around the corner with Peachy only to be met with the smiling visage of Beatrice holding a small box with her name pasted upon it. "Your father has strange timings on when he wanted these to be handed to you, happy birthday from me Milky." Instinctively Beatrice lifted the box as the young pony leapt forward and embraced her. Bea sighed resigning herself to this adorable display of affection. Once more, small but firm thank you's came from Milkshake's lips.
As Milkshake breaks the hug, she tears into the beautifully wrapped gift, "The wrapping is how I know this is all you Mom." They chuckle,
"Not all me, your Father was the one who found this." It was a black scarf that glistened humbly in the light, reminding Milky of the one they got Moony on her birthday, the one that the white pony couldn't stop teasing and admiring about.
"It's beautiful" Beatrice leans down slightly and hugs her tightly, before giving her a small kiss on the forehead.
"I'm glad you like it." Bea smiled before returning to the kitchen in an effort to finish the potato salad with the birds.
Peachy and Milky after a hearty meal find themselves sitting on the Garage roof, enjoying the approaching night as the sun set eagerly at their backs. They laughed and talked and wondered about the new trend of colours perusing their schools, as well as small fashion ideas and even a small bit of a project they hadn't started on for the school science fair. It felt like hours past before they were finally called down by Raven, "Look the sky is plenty pretty, we don't need two more stars up there, come on down and get ready for bed."
"Be down in a bit Dad" Milky sounded as they stood up and carefully navigated the tin roof layered between the Bricky garage. They got themselves ready and made their way to the bedroom Raven walking inside, seeming to wish Moony goodnight. Milkshake wandered in to be greeted by a painting of her, sitting gracefully upon the Garage in the exact outfit she was wearing for the day, and the presents she adorned for the day.
"Happy Birthday Milky Milks" this time Raven having to approach the flabbergasted pony and hugging her tightly he simply finished with, "No matter what happens, I know you'll find your flame, I love you Milky" Milky felt her emotion reach an extreme for the first time today, no tears to be shed just overwhelming happiness that her family did all this, everything for her, untraditional, small, personal... Just how she wanted. Raven kissed on the cheek and wished the girls a good night before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
Milkshake looked at the picture in it's frame and then back to her other presents from today and couldn't lose her smile if she wanted to.
