Tamarack is very reluctant to take the job as the sorcerer’s treasure guardian — he accidentally stumbled upon it in his travels, and the sorcerer (never failing to have a flare for the dramatic) said he could kill Tamarack with magic or employ him to protect the treasures.
Tamarack, as I’m sure you could imagine, chose the latter.
