It seems that Haruhi Suzumiya was in another one of her bored funks and wanted to make life a bit more interesting.
Thanks to bad word usage by Mikuru Asahina, Haruhi might have gotten a subconscious idea to alter reality XD. All the while Yuki Nagato is just along for the ride.
