Heh just a cute pic of my main two bodiless Coralans, Praza and Oriat, drawn by
thramus.
And thanks to
Foxgold for the writing help!
These two make such cute platonic friends, having been close before the war that destroyed their planet, and continue to be close and near inseparable now (but not in a relationship, Praza has a wife and kids after all), only really being apart when Praza is deployed on board their starship. And even then they still talk almost daily via quantum communications, much to their wife’s slight annoyance lol
Now for some more detailed background on these two:
Praza is a 30 year old (Terran) arcane engineer, with a well versed knowledge of how magic flows and interacts with architecture and engineering. They were one of the designers of the emergency chambers built for the Neutral Nations on Coralis, with six chambers designed to hold over half a million people. They were also one of the engineers in charge of restoring everyone when the planet was deemed habitable again. Unfortunately, the planet never was restored, and they were left to sleep for thousands of years rather than just hundreds. Though when they did finally wake, they were instrumental in rigging the remaining wellsprings to flood the population with energy, giving them telekinesis and allowing them to reproduce.
They now, continue to put their arcane engineering skills to work on the starship that rescued them, the UFS Yorktown, being granted a commission and hand picked by the captain and first officer. Their wife and kids live in Nya Göteborg (New Gothenburg) the Bodiless City on Terra, alongside Oriat and roughly 50k other Coralans.
Since becoming a bodiless, hermaphroditic head, they’ve made as much of a transition towards being female as possible, preferring neutral “they/them” pronouns.
Oriat is a reporter, having spent her life covering the escalating war between the two great factions on Coralis, usually with Praza’s connections and help. She was given an exclusive access to the emergency chambers before they were needed and reported to the public, and knows almost as much about them as Praza thanks to her extraordinary memory. A solo act, she has no interest in finding true love (though still has no problem giving into her natural heat and now rut cycles heh), preferring to just keep very close friends. Although usually very optimistic, she knows when and how to use pessimism to her advantage, and how to best capture the audience’s attention. For her, the word “no” tends to not mean much if it gets between her and a good story, be it on Coralis, in her new home in the Nordic Federation (former Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland), or in the Federation as a whole. Either way she makes it a point to be in the know.
She’s a clever Primate with the social skills to rival the best politicians today. Only Praza can actually see through and resist her, and even still she gets stuff out of them they wish they hadn’t said. With full knowledge of the already Latin-like Coralan language, the common Terran tongues are proving to be just a small road bump to her. The next story is her life, and she’ll be damned if she’s not a part of it, even if she has to push her way up a mountain to get there.
Together these two, along with their younger new friend Utrecht, navigate the new, crazy world and galaxy they woke up into. They have to learn how to master their telekinetic abilities and survive with 90% of their body, and over 99% of their species, gone, and truly live among aliens and helping to rebuild another world that just narrowly avoided the same fate as their world. They hope that, with most of the danger passed, they can help the United Nations of Terra move forward into the galactic community with relative ease, and few hiccups. Though at least Oriat does hope for some very “newsworthy” things to report on.
