Avatar Set Commission - $10 - All proceeds donated to Japan
I'm offering commissions for a two avatar set in the red and white color scheme like those shown above.
You will receive essentially the same image, in two versions, one in white lineart within the flag, one in red lineart with a cherry blossom patterned backdrop. You'll receive both in two sizes (100x100px and 500x500px)
ALL proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross (or possibly even a charity of your choosing??? So long as it goes towards aiding the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami victims.)
I'd really be appreciative to anyone that commissions me so that I can send more money to help Japan.
I'll be taking commissions for these starting from today, until the end of April, at the least.
[EDIT - As of March 31st the Rising Sun flag symbol will no longer be in use, and avatars featuring it will be replaced to insure there are no misunderstandings or offensiveness. My sincere apologies.]
See this journal entry for more information. I'll also be donating proceeds from standard avatar commissions as well!
Thank you so much for considering,
- Alicia R. Thomas

Ahh, I see, thank you for expressing this. I genuinely meant no offense at all. Having seen it in various arts (and at sporting events) I mistakenly thought that perhaps it was taking on a new meaning.
I think it would be best if I make edit to these avatars, I don't want anyone to endure any scrutiny to befall because of my mistake, when all they were doing was kindly donating.

best quote.. taking from wiki xD
Public perception of the national flag varies. To some Japanese, the flag represents Japan, and no other flag could take its place. However, the flag is not frequently displayed due to its association with extreme nationalism. The use of the flag and the national anthem Kimigayo have been a contentious issue for Japan's public schools since the end of World War II (the Pacific War). Disputes about their use have led to protests, lawsuits, and one suicide in Hiroshima Prefecture. To Okinawans, the flag represents the events of World War II and the subsequent U.S. military presence there. For some nations that had been occupied by Japan, the flag is a symbol of aggression and imperialism. The Hinomaru was used as a tool against occupied nations for purposes of intimidation, asserting Japan's dominance, or subjugation. Despite the negative connotations, Western and Japanese sources claim the flag is a powerful and enduring symbol to the Japanese. Several military banners of Japan are based on the Hinomaru, including the sunrayed Naval Ensign. The Hinomaru also serves as a template for other Japanese flags in public and private use.
