Renchero, if you recall, appeared when Kathy and Sandy first arrived in Rackenroon. He was the chief of the Idube (zebra in Zulu) who were serving as baggage bearers for their safari to the interior. He and Horn appear to be friends, although Renchero did refer to Horn as "bwana."
Renchero did not have a high opinion of his employers. He sneeringly stated (in his own language) that "Hyenas stink" and Horn refused to translate it for Kathy.
When the wild dogs attacked the safari, the zebras ran off, and that was the last time Kathy saw them. So she is glad to find out Renchero survived the attack. And Renchero is telling her that his herd will never forget how Kathy attacked the wild dogs to save the zebras. His opinion of her (and her sister and Fred) has gone up astronomically.
