just a simple spirit; i heard numerous stories and fables in latin america, like "la LLurona" (the lurking mother), and many other. there was one that heard about a spirit changing a man to a donkey and i thought why not have a character who's a spirit just like that? and maybe allow him to shape shift too... essentially this is him in a form of a carefree cat
