Bladed tonfas are older than that game but the idea is cool. Same for the character's look.

This is really cool. I love the sort of minimally-covering outfit he has. Gives a very flexible and agile impression of the character. And bladed tonfas... Yeah, I feel your pain there. I thought of them a while before I heard of Soul Caliber, though I never really did anything with them, and not half as cool as what you did here. Good work!

I hadn't really heard or seen them before prior to that.

But yeah, the outfit does give a sense that he prefers not to restrict his movements much with "unecessary" clothing. The plated armor is lightweight, meant to withstand a few strikes and add oomph to his kicks.
