Enclosed poorly ventilated space with lots of people doing physically demanding work means the miners' body heat probably made it pretty hot.
Also salt everywhere, on every surface and in the air; in addition to the dehydration that much salt is going to mess with your body in unhealthy ways.

I am surprised that Yinglet didn't try to fill the role of cheap helping hands. I am pretty sure that they could help Baxxid to dress up or open door. Their hands can be less agile that human ones but they still seem better that baxxid appendages can do. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/15289339/
While true, yinglets are flighty, twitchy, spastic, almost constantly sexual, and generally a poor fit for baxxid in every way. I imagine most baxxid would be in a state of constant horror employing a yinglet. Most yinglets capable of dedicated persistent employment in a role seem to already be assigned such at home.
Yinglets do not have much carrying capacity unless they are unusually large Yinglets ones and even then they can hold a stack of books at the most without being injured or flat out crushed.
Also the Baxxid remember everything, most yinglets can't even remember where they were 10 minutes ago. Like fire and ice XD

You have me imagining a baxxid wanting to upgrade to this year's improved yinglet model. "This one has more memory and storage capacity and can connect to the local ying-net!"
"Did you try getting a lesser yinglet for the convenient size?"
"I asked but the yinglet dealers *really* didn't like that idea."

I think the important thing to remember is that the city yinglets are the yinglets the Val Salian enclave didn't want. These are yinglets that are incompetent by yinglet standards. Well, at best incompetent. You definitely wouldn't want to hire any yinglets that were kicked out for other reasons.
This seems like something elderly humans might find fulfilling to take part in, especially long term Ivenmoth whose age is limiting their ability to fill previous roles - though I could see it being a duty children fulfil as well as part of growing up and learning to be responsible, or as punishment. Actually, it makes me wonder if city dwelling Scavs might take interest in as well. A part of me wants to see a Baxxid with an entire entourage of Yinglet attendants all ecstatically dressed up for the role.
Hi, OOPs folks! I'm here to remind you yet again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
OOPs closed out last month at around 58th place and around 912 votes. It's currently at 832 votes and 59th place. The highest it's reached is 36th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something close to 20,000 votes. Today's the last day to vote, let's pump this up!
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

I'm now picturing the first official Yinglet Helping Hand but due to their size a mere white hand print isn't always sufficient to bring them the proper attention and thus they employ a big stuffed white hand hat similar to the foam hands or fingers of Earth's sporting events.
This rapidly becomes a popular trend among many Yinglet after seeing these first few prosper under the Baxxid employment, but not truly understanding the nuances involved and not wanting to draw potential ire by fully mimicking the official ones many prospective Yinglet 'helping hands' end up wearing various other 'body part replicas' atop their heads.
Zany antics ensue.

Neat, fun, and interesting.
Tho I think arm bands or sashes or even hats would be the more practical option, atleast for unofficial helping hands or newbie Ivenmoths just trying it out; easy to make, easy to take off if you change your mind, need a break, or are just temporarily busy, etc. No need to alter your shirts/coats.

I couldn’t survive as baxxid. Asking for assistance is last thing I would want to do, even if some people are being paid to. It isn’t so much about the feeling of independence but avoiding to socialize.
That being said, how often does Ivenmoth encourage citizens to volunteer so they can exploit free labor?
