the cannon (or at least what I read) is that their legs where chopped off and replaced with the "boots" they wear to prevent their blood to move too low when handling the R-wings at high speeds. Except Krystal's who for some reason pilots R-wings to full capacity despite never been on board of one before...

Damn... actually went researching again and turns out it was just an aesthetic touch the designers gave to the characters, but the theory was debunked by the creators...

good because I never liked that theory, its pointless since these are two leg walking talking animals that fly spaceships. Realism kinda went out the window.
