Enid is from an unexpected place: the Justicar Greyhawk trilogy of DnD books from the 90's by Pauli Kidd. The heroes meet her the dungeon of the first book and since the book is based on a module, she was probably meant to be a fearsome monster to kill. But I was pleasantly surprised, when I read the books in the late 2010's, that Enid is not only saved by the heroes but joins them for the next two books! She doesn't have hands so she does everything like opening her pack and carrying stuff with her mouth and it's adorable; that's why her pack is on the front!
I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the author is both furry and trans, and on this website.
