Autogyros are interesting. They control like airplanes for the most part, but they can take off in much shorter distances and can land totally vertically. Most of their lift comes from the rotor on top of them, which is totally unpowered and spins freely as the autogyro flies around. Because of that, their wings can be much shorter than an airplane's, and in fact aren't really even required.
This one was built to launch from and land on special zeppelins. Launching is as easy as dropping off the side of the airship, and there is a special landing zone on the top of it. Of course, it still requires a lot of skill to get back on the carrier, but being able to land vertically helps a lot.
Autogyro technology is a bit more advanced in this setting than it was historically; the first successful one didn't fly until 1923, but in this setting they're a common sight in 1920.
