I actually looked on google's image search, the wrench the engineer uses is an actual wrench, albeit a really old one, and it looks pretty fierce. But a modern wrench would probably be more likely to be something you'd bonk someone on the head with. in space.
Maybe he'd have a Fubar? or one of those carpenters tools that looks like a hammer had sex with a hatchet.

I'll agree with you that this is the one I meant all along.
because the one I've seen on a google image search is an image that keeps getting posted on a zombiehunters.org... so laaame. as a hatchet-hammer-crowbar it looked cool, almost like a medieval weapon, but something like that is useless in a world of pipes and valves.
