This's the House Crest for the 'Crimson Divine', the fictional brothel in my new comic Red Lantern (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4260941/)

House Crests are not clan symbols, they are designs meant to tag property, including indentured servants, that belong to the house.

Also, maybe I'm an idiot (which I dont doubt), but aren't crests more complicated and have a shield?

Crests don't need a shield, but coat of arms do.

Nope. Lots of them are cast on medallions or plates or even engraved into things like wooden furniture or stone archways

From a graphic design standpoint, this is a very nice emblem. Visually appealing, equally weighted with color and negative spacing in between...I'm impressed!

You should vectorize it so you can use it at larger sizes/print it! :3
