Reese's cybernetic arm has a few tricks, one of which is he can launch his hand to deliver a powerful ranged punch, or to grab on to something. The hand is connected by a high tech energy tether, generally intangible and invisible, that extends a few dozen meters. Using the tether, Reese can recall his hand to him, or pull himself to the hand if it has grabbed on to something, functioning like a grappling hook. Objects can pass between the hand and his arm without disrupting the tether, but Reese, or his hand, would collide with the object if the tether was retracted while it was between the hand and Reese. If too much strain is put on the tether, the mechanism will shut down before it breaks. In that case, the hand must be manually retrieved and reattached to reestablish the tether.
