Good afternoon!
I made it home safely around 2 AM this morning. Though my trip's initial inspiration was my mother being sick and my dad dying, I also tried to make new happy memories while I was there, I got to share my "home town" with my husband, Diablito, and introduce him to my family.
My sister had done allot of groundwork for setting things up for mom and dad at the funeral home. I was just asked to review some of the paper work as one of dad's surviving children, and was able to pick out a memento. The picture above is of said memento, with my dad's finger print and a statement I felt suited him. He was a stage play actor, had a degree in fine arts, and taught such for a while.
Mom is still sick. She's been able to keep down fluids like water and soda, so we got her some sprite for her belly upsets, and her favorite soda of all which is A&W root beer. She seemed to perk up with that as eating is about the only pleasure she has left. That's been furiously dampened by her mix of choking risk and nausea. They changed her medication to help with the nausea she was experiencing so I hope that helps her eat more in the future.
Unfortunately, Blito was a bit under the weather for most the trip but I was glad to see that he still had some fun. Blito and my family got along well, and we enjoyed my favorite Chinese restaurant and and local coffee shop. It's really handy, as those two locations are on the same block as each other. We also visited a local card shop which had been open for about three years now, and is run by a fellow that was one grade behind me at the high-school there. My sister gifted us these neat lil silicone rings which are comfy and don't run the risk of scratching, or being scratched. They also don't set off metal detectors at the airport, hah! I also took a moment to visit the fairgrounds with Blito, to share my favorite work of art in town, that being a large horse statue.
While at a general store there, I happened upon an old friend that I went to school with, one of two that I usually hung out with and the only one that stayed in town of the two.
Blito and I watched a couple movies with the fam, including Outlander, the sort of sci-fi fantasy one. That was pretty neat and included a mix of technology levels that I enjoy.
Now that we are home, the weekend is going to be mostly recuperation and preparing for next week. So you'll be seeing more drawing from me soon. It's been a really rough week, and I'd like to thank you guys for being here for me to come home to.

Thank you for the hugs, too. Everyone's love and support has been helping.
I was keenly aware that saying goodbye to mom may be the last one, too. But I'm hoping her condition improves, so that she can make some new happy memories. As I know there is a bit more she would like to be able to do.
For now, I feel like I am recovering physically and emotionally.

Oh man, I'm not looking forward to relating to that. I'm sorry you've had to go through that too. I know it's inevitable but knowing that doesn't seem to make it any easier. My dad was 80, and mom is 70, and I hear that in spite age difference some that have been together for a long time kinda give out in less than a year from their partner.
Sorry to hear that bud. At least you had a relationship to miss! My extended family was not very present in my life to really feel the absence now that they have all passed away. I don't have any grandparents left at this point. I felt more loss over my dog and cat. But Mom and dad though, they were a big part of my life. I've only been living on my own now for about 10-11 years and had visited my folks on occasion still. Dad talked like he was ready to go at least. Mom is still alive but she has allot to recover from and fight through.
