Ah-ha, but this is a misconception. A spoonful, that you can fit ON one spoon. Clearly there is a much larger amount surrounding the spoon. Only the amount above said spoon's surface actually counts. This also includes any extraneous amount that is being supported by the amount that is above the spoon, so the supported sides also do not count.
