This is an interesting story I've made for my friend
XM1C where I get to meet some of his OCs for a nice backyard barbecue. I hope you all enjoy. ^^
It was getting late. The sun had already set on the land, with only a few street lights illuminating the street. On that street were a couple of friends, the Human John and the anthro Spinosuarous named Douglas, who was a head taller than his human companion. They were heading towards the Spino's house, walking instead of driving as they wanted fresh air, exercise, and a way to talk without worrying about what was on the road. Doug wanted to show his human friend his home, where he and his wife and close friends live, so when it came into view, he smiled and exclaimed to his friend. "Here we are, John. My home away from home. I bet you are excited about this, aren't you?" John smiled and nodded at his friend, happy to have this time with him as they approached the front door. "Yep. I've been living at the mansion for a long time, so to see and stay at your place for a bit is a nice change of pace." Doug grinned and pressed against the brick beside the door, pushing a brick within and letting a claw scanner appear beside the door. He grinned at his amazed human friend as he held his claw to it, the scanning of it allowing the door to unlock with a subtle click. "Hehe, well then. Might as well show you around." Doug then opened the door, letting his human friend slowly walk in to see the inside of his wonderful home. It was your standard suburban home, scaled up to accommodate the larger size of the homeowners. There are some stairs to the next floor on the right, while on the left, there is a room with a comfy sofa and a large TV. As he walked further in, continuing through a hallway that went straight as Doug closed and locked the door behind him, he saw to his left a big kitchen with a stove almost as high as his neck and a fridge that could easily fit the human inside. Before he could turn around to Doug to tell him how wonderful this place was, he heard a commotion from the right, which startled him as it was sudden, and their voices were deep. "Heh, guess we are not the only ones in this house." Doug chuckled and put his arm around his human friend reassuringly. "Well then, how about we have you meet these other friends of mine." John looked up at the Spino and smiled, walking with him into the living room, wondering who, or what, these friends were.
When John entered the room, he saw that it was a living room with a large metal table with a bunch of oversized chairs around it, which, while it would look cool to John on their own, the two people sitting at it were much more fascinating. On the left was what looked like a red anthro Spino, similar to Doug, but with a cowboy hat and his left eye, arm, and tail replaced with metal. On the right seat was also interesting, and yet for entirely different reasons. It was a living skeleton, intact and wearing what looked to be an old German uniform, probably what he was wearing during his original death. As they were talking and laughing with each other, not noticing the human and other spino, John wondered what brought them here, though due to their appearances, it was obvious their backstories weren't the most cheery. The human watched them for a while, unsure of how to interject, when Doug walked over to the table and slammed on it, shutting the two up and making them look in his direction. "Hmm, that's better. Now, you two, I'd like you to meet my human friend John. He's a kind young soul and adopted son of Chompless. Say hi John." Doug smiled as he looked down at his friend, who was a little nervous but still waved at the other spino and skeleton, making them smile at his kindness. The red Spino first responded in a gruff yet kind sounding voice. "Hello John. Nice to meet you. Name's Gunner. I'm a bounty hunter. Though don't worry, I wouldn't hunt a bounty of someone as innocent as you." He then held his robot arm to John, letting the human shake it and see what it looked like, complete with an inactive gun attachment he had used during many of his adventures. Then the skeleton leaned over, his body moving as smoothly as a human normally would, and held his hand out before speaking in a calm voice you'd expect when a commander is having a good day. "And I'm Hans. Former Soldier of the German Military. I-I'm sure you can see why I left that occupation. Heh." John sighed and nodded, understanding the sad reason why, and shook his hand. It felt strange to be touching the bones of someone, but at least things were going well for this meeting, so he was certainly OK with the oddities.
"Well then, I am glad to have the chance to meet both of you. Maybe we can talk some more later?" The duo smiled and nodded at John, but before the human could walk away, Doug interjected with an idea. "Who says we should end your meeting right here? I've got a bunch of meat in the freezer. We could have a barbecue for all of us, minus Hans since he can't eat, and hang out for the night together?" John was surprised by the offer, not expecting to be a part of something like that so soon, but when both Gunner and Hans smiled and nodded at the idea, the human smiled, happy they wanted to hang out some more. "Well sure. I'd love a nice barbecue." Doug smiled and held his arm around John as he led him out the back door to the grill, but not before asking Gunner to get the meat for him while he set up, which the Spino was glad to do. As they went out back, they saw a standard portable grill, already set up with a propane tank beside it, ready to be used for the grilling. Doug and John worked together to get it ready, ensuring the gas was hooked up correctly, cleaned up, and ready for cooking.
Meanwhile, Hans was kind enough to bring the plates and utensils they will need to eat on and with to the outside metal table, and even got everyone some glasses of water set up. Even though he couldn't eat any of it, he was more than happy to help with the preparations. After everything else was set up, Gunner finally came out with the meat, getting a couple large steaks for the Spinos and one regular steak for John, as his appetite wasn't nearly as big as the dinos around him. Douglas took the steaks and thanked Gunner for them before grilling them. As the others waited for Doug to grill them, they discussed their lives with each other, with Gunner and Hans talking about their adventures, remarkable and surprising John with the experiences they had gone through, both new and old. After a bit, Doug was done grilling the steaks, made Medium Rare to ensure they had a good blend of being cooked and still having the soft, juicy middle within. They all dug in, enjoying the taste of their warm and juicy steaks, and the Human and red Spino thanked Doug for the meal. They would talk more about their lives afterwards, letting John connect with his new friends more and more. In the end, John knew one thing for sure. He would certainly stop by again for another steak barbecue, and this time, he'd ask Hans why he couldn't eat with them.
