Yeah, probably no one remembers me talking about this one, as it was a bit ago, but here's Marina Brightwing, and her future mate/meal Shade Silverwing, from the book/cartoon series Silverwing. I based an OC off of the design of these two(That's Nightwing, the Bat/it's complicated I show sometimes).
Nothing too much else to say, I liked the designs, and Vitt does them quite well.

It does. Some of the bats of the story are those involved in 'Project X-Ray' an attempt by the US Military, specifically the Marine Corps, to use bats as delivery systems for bombs. It did not work, and was scrapped, but one of the bombs becomes part of the climax of book two, Sunwing, meanwhile some of the loosed bats from the project, wearing tracking tags, are met in book one.
Book three takes place years later(not sure how many, since I don't know how long bats take to breed/grow up), and deals with an entirely separate problem, while also claiming the bat religion is real, while implying so is every other religion.
The cartoon gets to the climax of book one, and throws in elements from book two, but sadly, never finished, so it ends on a 'to be continued' note.

It's certainly interesting to think about, especially when you factor in bats different senses like the way they navigate via echolocation.
And it's always quite interesting when humans are portrayed as a monolithic, unknowable force akin to a cosmic horror to average animals we are kind of like that.
From the description you gave me it sounds like book three goes off the rails.

Yeah, I was too old for the books by far, but after watching the cartoon, I decided to read them, a breezy afternoon thing that. Still, good, well paced stories are for any age. Also, one of the best visions of a 'heaven' I can remember seeing in the final part of the last book.
