As you can see, the stone looks a little different from the first picture. This internal sheen of light reflected from inside the stone is what is known as labradorescence. It's actually much nicer in person, but all I have is a static picture, so it will have to do.

Thanks, I'm trying to make nice looking items that might actually make people pause for minute and think about what they are seeing, or at the very least take a second glance. You might want to have a look at the other stuff in my gallery - I like to think most of it is at the very least curious in one manner or another.
oh really?! I might want to get in touch with you then, depending on what type of beading you have done. If you look closely at the fluorite pieces I have up... the knotting on them really kind of sucks. I'd be happy to get some pointers. I'm pretty much teaching myself as I go along. This is my second wire wrapped necklace. You can see definite improvement over the first (the emerald also in my gallery).
I, personally, am a fan of nature.
And what you do there is technically make nature in a jewelry, so that makes me happy.
You have my favor of choice when it comes to things, so if I want a jewel of a sort that isn't like the shit you find in every other store, I'm gonna come to you because you're a unique type. Gotta love that. :3

<grins> I appreciate the vote of confidence. I was thinking about it, and I'll be bringing most every geological phenomenon there is to FWA: labradorescence (shown here), aldurescence (with moonstones), fluorescence (the fluorite necklaces in my gallery), luminescence (the shark tooth pendants, among others - also in the gallery), color changes with sapphires and alexandrite, opals for the fire, and the 'star' phenomena... rubies, sapphires (both 6 and 12 point), and 4 point star sunstone. Lots of rather interesting stones.
Shelby gave me a link to your gallery so I could have a nosey at what you're making. This one caught my eye because the wiring makes it look like a scarab beetle in the thumbnail and because Labrodorite is one of my favourite stones, though I haven't got any jewellery of it yet.You should get more of your work up, and some prices too. Would be especially handy for those of us like me who are not in the US and/or unable to get to conventions like FWA.
<chuckles> I think the stone is the perfect shape for it (looking like a scarab) the wrap around the middle just happened to enhance that effect. I'll have o look and see if I have any more pieces like this that will pull off the effect. As fro Shelby pointing you my way - GREAT! I'm glad you decided to come have a look - I hope it was worth the time!
Regarding getting more work out - I really need to actually make more that's worth putting up. For instance, once you've made 10 shark tooth necklaces, they all start to look the same, and no point putting more up just because you changed the bead pattern (white, tan, brown, tan, brown to tan, brown, tan, white, tan) I figure it's pretty obvious I can set that pattern to whatever should someone have a request. Aside from that, I really haven't made anything new since FWA except a couple crappy, crappy plastic bead necklaces only for showing off fluorescent plastic and glass beads. One I'll be happy to get $5 for, the other it really just **overkill** for show. Regarding prices: I'm not really set in prices yet - I know what I'd like to get on a lot of the pieces, and a lot of folks like to add trades in - for instance someone is buying a swan princess animation cel mostly in trade for business cards (creating the artwork and having them made up, full color, glossy, double sided) and a banner for me so next year I'll look more professional. Another who makes lovely avatars on second life used that as part of a trade. As or flat prices on pieces like this, I sold a similar piece that I made at FWA with a smaller piece of labradorite for $50. Since everything is custom made, it's kind of hard to set prices without saying 'depending on stone', or 'depending on necklace/clasp'. Most of the time at FWA I just said 'make an offer' and if it was reasonable, I took it. I'd like to make some money, but I'm not out to rip anyone off.
In regards to what I can make.... I think at this point, pretty much anything you can think of. If it requires intricate wiring, It might not end it looking that great close up as the wiring I'm still teaching myself, but I have lots of seaglass, beads in: glass, plastic, wood, stone (many types quartz, ruby, emerald, fluorite, coral, pearl (white, cream, blue, pink, round, biwa, irregular)) - chains I have a lot as well - silver like this one - 2 or 3 sizes (on the link, can always cut to custom length) , gold with a couple sizes, silk with leather to strenthen it, flat leather like the shark's tooth, braided leather like with the fluorite, both silver and gold (technically white gold and yellow gold plated, but) box chains, a few random chains of different styles lying about ... then for clasps, I have magnetic, as you see here, lobster in both silver and gold, and a some squeeze type (think of a carabeener used in mountain climbing, same idea, only smaller and all one piece). I also have a lot of metal charms of various animals that can be used. I suppose I should make a few pics with different choices at some point, but I haven't got around to it. I'm always ordering something new to see how it looks and those would have to be constantly updated <chuckles>... but in most cases, if I don't have it, I can find it.
In any case, I need to run here, have a class in half an hour. feel free to inquire as to any questions or requests. This piece is still available as well, if you are interested.
