Original Species: Ulurian Spined Lash-Tongue
The Spined Lash-Tongue is the smaller but arguably more dangerous relative of the Greater Lash-Tongue. Far less sedentary than its bulky cousin, this ambush predator is a force to be reckoned with. Its tongue can shoot out at a distance of up to 3 meters (9+ feet) and is covered in extremely sticky saliva. Even if the prey animal manages to wrestle out of this lizard's grip, the saliva will still remain on its body, significantly hampering the prey's movements. With this, the Spined Lash-Tongue can charge in and use its well-developed claws to rip its victim apart. Once a combination of shock and blood loss ends the prey's life, the Lash-tongue can then eat it at its leisure.
If the prey is too small and weak to escape the Lash-Tongue's initial attack, it will be dragged into the beast's maw and swallowed whole (in a similar fashion to how a chameleon's prey ends up).
As an ambush predator, the Spined Lash-Tongue is not a good runner; it's only capable of maintaining short bursts of speed and only when that is absolutely necessary. If one manages to avoid the initial tongue attack, there is a good chance of outrunning it and escaping to a safer place.
