September 11
22 years. It's been 22 years since that tragic day. On September 11, 2001, 4 planes were hijacked. In New York City, American Airlines Flight 11, and American Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the North and South Tower, of the World Trade Center. Another flight, American Airlines Flight 77, crashed into the west facade of the Pentagon. Another plane, Flight 93, was intended to destroy the White House, but due to a successful retaking of the plane's control, it crashed into an open field in southern Pennsylvania. These attacks, were all in response to many, many factors that took place days, months, and years before.
The US had built military bases and forts on sites like Mecca, and Medina, both of which are seen as the holiest, by those in the Islamic faith. At the same time, the US was giving aid and support to Israel, during its conquest over Palestinian controlled territories. One man in particular, Osama bin Laden, hated all this. He didn't like all this Western influence over Saudi Arabia. He believed that this much international control, should not be in a holy place like Saudi Arabia. So, many attacks were carried out, throughout the Middle East, and finally the United States.
Almost ten years later, on May 2, 2011, President Barack Obama announced that the US Navy's SEAL Team Six had a confirmed kill, when they raided Osama bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad,Pakistan, as part of completing Operation: Neptune Spear.
While this was a pivotal move towards stopping terrorism, we must also remember that a day like this, must NEVER be forgotten.
