Here's a side-by-side comparison of the two models. They use the same head, but have different torsos. The new model (left) is a lot simpler than the old model (right). The old model has more polygons, particle hair, and a fur texture. I dropped a lot of these details for various reasons. I seem to have a lot more control of instanced tufts of fur than I ever did with particle hair, and I think it looks cleaner. Tt was a pain to manually paint a fur texture on the model, and I don't think it added much. Fewer polygons makes the model far easier to adjust, rig, pose, and animate, even if it means the character is less detailed.
The head is the same between both models. I just copied it to the torso of the new model.
