Original Species: Wooly Parrot
The Wooly Parrot is a bizarre avian creature native to the cold deserts at the southern end of Vogelheim. This bird lumbers through the cold wastelands in search of roots and tubers which it digs out from the ground with its massive, pickaxe-like beak. The long, shaggy feathers covering its body serve as excellent protection against the frigid winds that often blow over the barren landscape.
The Wooly Parrot evolved from parrots that used their beaks to dig up clay in order to negate the effects of certain poisonous plants they ate. Over time, the parrots discovered a much less poisonous dietary alternative in the form of tubers, roots, and bulbs, which in turn caused them to spend more time on the ground. Millennia later, they have become the largest herbivores in the dry and barren ecosystem.
