The Great and Good Samaritan of the Atlantic (Fan Art)

This is a drawing I made of the transatlantic ship "RMS Carpathia", which together with its sisters SS Ivernia and RMS Saxonia, were the response of the British shipping company "Cunard Line" to the strong competition for trips through the Atlantic seas among its rivals of the same English nationality as White Star Line, and the Germans Norddeutscher Lloyd and Hamburg Amerika Linie at the beginning of the 20th century.
After her launch in 1902, Carpathia offered comfort and convenience for those traveling in second and third class (later a new section for first class was added) with a clean navigation record without notable incidents. But that peace would not last long until the early morning of April 15, 1912, since upon receiving SOS calls from its rival companion RMS Titanic, Carpathia diverted its scheduled course towards Fiume (Austria-Hungary, currently the Croatian city of Rijeka), and goes to the site of the Titanic accident at all the speed that its steam engines will allow. To his surprise, Carpathia finds a sea full of debris and lifeless bodies floating on the surface, but is somewhat relieved to spot lifeboats full of survivors, whom she boards without a second thought, making sure to keep her new passengers safe and sound as she redirects her course to New York. Upon arriving in the United States, it was evident that the news of the sinking of Titanic had caused a great deal of furor throughout the world, which is why Carpathia was very reserved in making statements to the newspapers, only responding fully to questions from the authorities both British and American competent, but still, she was recognized and decorated as a great hero for her great rescue actions.
A few years later, and after the outbreak of World War I, Carpathia was requisitioned by the Royal Navy as a troop and ammunition transport like other commercial ships under the British Admiralty. Until on July 17, 1918, the German submarine SM U-55 decides to launch their torpedoes towards Carpathia, causing enormous fatal damage to the navalmorph girl's hull, and consequently causing her inevitable sinking, taking five souls with her and leaving survive 275 of a total of 280 passengers and crew on board.
In truth, since I saw the history of the Carpathia, I could not help feeling admiration for the great and noble action of this ship in helping and giving refuge to the survivors of the ship considered "Sinkable" at that time as the RMS Titanic, together with she participation in WW1. Therefore, I think that she deserves this tribute made in her memory xD

Este es un dibujo que hice del buque transatlantico "RMS Carpathia", quien junto a sus hermanas SS Ivernia y RMS Saxonia, fueron la respuesta de la compañía naviera britanica "Cunard Line" ante la fuerte competencia de viajes por los mares atlanticos entre sus rivales de misma nacionalidad inglesa como White Star Line, y los alemanes Norddeutscher Lloyd y Hamburg Amerika Linie a inicios del siglo XX.
Tras su botadura en 1902, Carpathia ofreció confort y comodidad para aquellas personas que viajaban en segunda y tercera clase (Más adelante se incorporó una nueva sección para la primera clase) con un historial de navegación limpio y sin incidentes destacables. Pero aquella paz no duraría mucho hasta la madrugada del 15 de Abril de 1912, ya que al recibir los llamados de SOS de su compañera rival RMS Titanic, Carpathia desvía su rumbo programado hacia Fiume (Austria-Hungria, actualmente la ciudad croata de Rijeka), y se dirige al lugar del siniestro de Titanic a toda la velocidad que le permiten sus motores de vapor. Para su sorpresa, Carpathia se encuentra con un mar lleno de escombros y cuerpos sin vida flotando en la superficie, pero se alivia un poco al avistar botes salvavidas llenos de supervivientes, de los cuales aborda en su interior sin pensarlo dos veces, y se asegura de mantener salvos y sanos a sus nuevos pasajeros mientras redirige su rumbo hacia New York. Al llegar a Estados Unidos, era evidente que la noticia del hundimiento de Titanic había causado mucho furor en todo el mundo, por lo cual Carpathia fue muy reservada a dar declaraciones a los diarios, y solo respondía de manera completa a las preguntas de las autoridades tanto británicas como americanas competentes, pero aún así, se la reconoció y condecoró como una gran heroina por sus grandes acciones de rescate.
Unos años después, y tras el estallido de Primera Guerra Mundial, Carpathia fue requisada por la Royal Navy como transporte de tropas y munición como otros buques comerciales bajo el almirantazgo británico. Hasta que el día 17 de Julio de 1918, el submarino alemán SM U-55 decide lanzar sus torpedos hacia Carpathia causando enormes daños de muerte en el casco de la chica navalmorph, y por consecuencia provocó su inevitable hundimiento, llevándose a cinco almas con ella y dejando sobrevivir a 275 de un total de 280 pasajeros y tripulacion a bordo.
En la verdad, desde que ví la historia del Carpathia, no pude evitar sentir admiración por la gran y noble acción de este buque en auxiliar y dar refugio a los sobrevivientes del considerado buque "Hinundible" en ese entonces como el RMS Titanic, junto a su participación en la WW1. Por lo cual, pienso que ella se merece este homenaje hecho en su memoria xD
