so, this is my entry into the monster contest. ^//////^ i have no real aspirations of winning, but the idea was such a wonderful concept to me that i just had to try my hand at it. ^^

The Jhaankuu Sleep Eater


The Jhaankuu (ján-kü) is a creature half composed of nightmares. One is created when dark magic is used improperly or over time as small twinges of evil arcane doings collect in the small dark recesses of the world. Over time this fiendish energy becomes sentient. As people awake from there darkest dreams it saves them from the waking light and takes them for its self. As it becomes stronger and amasses its self, the creature takes a more physical body resembling the darkest forms found in the dreams it steals.

Once a jhaankuu has matured it's form to one it feels expectable it will become a carnivorous seeker of those who suffer dark dreams. When it manages to find a nightmare ridden victim; it is able to a disturbing humming sound that has no effect on those awake, but makes it near impossible for someone to awake from sleep. It will proceed to cocoon the victim in their own bedding and devour them whole. When a jhaakuu has injected a victim, it is able to take a part of their dream and add it to its self.

The subject shown here is a young jhaankuu. no more than a few years old. It's form is still somewhat basic. The elders can become as elaborate as any nightmare imaginable...literally.

This monster feasts only once a year on the anniversary of its first physical form. The rest of its life is sent lurking in the darkness of a normally limited area. seasoning his future meals over years by spawning a succession of nightmares with its song in the victims sleep.
