I had some dead wood laying in my yard and so I got out my dad's hand-saw and sawed a few discs off. Sanded them down (zomg, sandpaper is slow!!) and woodburned them with my hotknife--celtic knots. :) Drilled a hole in each of them to thread a cord through to make it a necklace.
What do you think? I had a lot of fun with these. The wood is just beautiful--I left the backs blank because it's just so pretty, and the feel of the wood is smooth and soft like silk. I sanded it as smooth as I could--it's really smooth. No finish on these yet but I'm leaning towards a mineral oil. I left the bark on where I could to give it a more interesting, natural look. These are pretty small, and surprisingly light for being wood.
Leftmost one weighs 6 grams, top one weighs 1 gram, bottom one weighs 1 gram, and the right one weighs 3 grams. Very light!!
I have some other small pieces of wood about the size of the right one and left one, and some larger ones (3 that are 3 inches across, and about 10 that are 4-6 inches across) that I'm working on sanding. Those will probably just be for display...not to be worn, lol, though the 3 inch ones are the perfect size/shape for belt buckles. Hmm....
Anyways, I'll probably be selling these. PM me or comment here if you're interested in one of these or one like them. :)
