Gyako and Zonos rushed after Taiyka as she sprinted down the path. As she reached the crest of the hill, she stopped to allow her friends catch up. As they made it to the hill, they are almost out of breath especially Gyako from carrying his bag. When they quickly recover and look up, they are greeted with an amazing view of Wikari. The town was huge. Bigger than anything Gyako had ever seen. Creamy white houses with red rooves lay out in a perfect grid like pattern with lush oak trees sitting between them. Four grey main roads connecting each side of the town all met at one point in the centre with a large ‘circular’ square which Gyako assumed held most of the town’s gatherings. Gyako just starred off viewing all the small details.
“Pretty cool right?” Taiyka said to Gyako breaking him out of his trance.
“It’s so big,” Gyako replied, “So much bigger than Palas. But…” Gyako pointed at the large grey walls that lined the perimeter of the town. “What with all those walls?”
“Oh, those,” Taiyka replied with a disgusted tone. “Alright do you see that big building at the back of the square?” The red cat pointed towards a magnificent looking white building with larges stairs heading down to the square. It was larger than all the other house in the town and its red roof curved to make a dome shape.
“Yeah, I see it,” Gyako confirmed.
“That’s our founders house. He’s a sweet guy, a big ole’ softy, everybody loves him. He used to run everything in the town and it was perfect. When the town needed defense from beasts or bandits, he appointed a guardship for simple policing. Over time though, the guardship started to take away the power from him and soon started making the dumb laws and they put up these walls to protect us from ‘potential enemies.’” She made air quotes with her paws so to run home how stupid she thought that was. “He’s now just a figurehead of the town and the guardship run the show.”
“Really,” was all Gyako could say as he was in no place to understand this new town’s internal politics.
“Yeah, and since the Flame Festival’s tomorrow security’s been upped a fair bit. It might be hard to get through the main gate since I’m kinda a fugitive and anyone seen with me is probably up to no good as well.”
“What!” Gyako exclaimed, “You mean I’m not gonna be let in because I met you.”
“A victim of circumstance…” Zonos sighed.
“Don’t worry I’ll get you in,” Taiyka reassured him.
“How?” Gyako asked.
Taiyka smirked and put her paw on his shoulder. “Just follow me.”
The red cat led her friends around the side of the town following a smaller path. The path ended at a small passageway in the wall with two white and brown dragon cats keeping guard. They were clad in silver helmets, spears and shields.
“Stop there, travelers!” they both shouted raising their spears, “State your names and business. You are not here to cause trouble are you?”
“Uhhh I uhhhh no no uhhh, I’m Gyako and I’m an adventurer and I’m just visiting-,” Gyako said all flustered.
“I’m with them,” Zonos said quicker than he’s ever spoken before.
“Don’t worry guys,” Taiyka assured, “These guys are cool, right guys?”
The two guards lowered their spears and took off their menacing act.
“Yup,” the left guard said cheerfully, “Any friend of Taiyka is alright. I’m Aldow. Sorry for scaring you.”
“And I’m Marlow,” the right one said, “We’re brothers if you couldn’t tell.”
“Oh hoh, okay,” Gyako sighed trying to calm down himself down.
“Yeah, these guys help me sneak in and out of town from time to time,” Taiyka explained. She turned back to the guards, “So on gate duty again huh?”
“Yeah,” Aldow started, “But it beats all the paperwork Luasca would have given us.”
“Also, it’s less noisy here since everyone’s preparing for the festival,” Marlow added.
Aldow put his finger up as if he had just remembered something, “Speaking of Luasca, he’s become the Master of the Guards.”
Taiyka’s eyes lit up with shock, “WHAT! REALLY!!!”
“Yeah, your brother became the master and things have gotten really interesting since,” Aldow said.
“More work,” Marlow added.
“He’s looking for you right now and he told us if we saw you that we should tell you to go meet him at the founder’s palace.”
“Alright thanks, Taiyka said, “I’m not gonna do that.”
“Yeah, I can’t blame ya. He’s a bit of a pain in the rear.”
The three of them shared a laugh and the guards parted to allow Taiyka and her friends to pass through.
“Alright, enjoy your stay in Wikari and Gyako,” Aldow stopped him, “If you’re staying a while, our mother runs an inn called Island Dreams, it would be nice if you stayed there.”
“Gotta support local businesses y’know,” Marlow said.
“Thanks for the invitation,” Gyako cheerfully said, “I’ll look out for it.”
With that the dragon cat trio made their way through the small gate of the Wikari wall. Just as they were about to enter the town itself, Taiyka jumped ahead and stopped them for a bit. She clasped her paws together. “Right, I’m not feeling like meeting with my brother so how about I show you around town instead?”
