A cry sounded across the city, keening. It pierced through the deserted streets like a trumpet blast, rebelling against the silence that had come to inhabit this place.

"I am here", it seemed to declare, echoing through the empty buildings, growing to a crescendo.
"I am here", it seemed to whisper, as the echoes fade into the distance.

And then - once again, silence, and a breath.
