Decided I wanted a reference for my mouse. His design is really loose and fickle. He's constantly different hues, and I shift between picturing him with a thicker mane of fur, no mane at all, and just full on fluffy all over. Long story short, he's a mouse with a brighter underbelly, and sometimes his fur grows wild. He tends to carry himself very softly and with a shy, observant vibe.
The name choice of Columbus was a personal choice based solely on the fact, if you look up the meaning of the Malcomb, it straight up just tells you there was a dude named Malcom that followed Saint Columba around. Which amused me greatly, so this is Columbus, as a loose relation to my actual name.
The surname choice of Sugar-tail is a familial history choice. My family a few generations back were share croppers. I don't know what they worked with (probably cotton or corn), but I decided to go with sugar cane for Columbus' family history. The idea is his family would work in the processing of sugar cane, and spilled sugars and cane fibers would cling to their tails as they dragged across the ground. They'd walk home at the end of the day, with a muddy syrup of sorts clinging to their tails. So sugar-tail is not a sort of flirty surname but an old occupational name.
Columbus is one of 3 of the characters I usually use to represent myself. Malcomb The Tea Dragon and Asher Davies the hare being the others. Of the 3, Columbus is my most feminine side and my most demisexual side. Also, I would totally wear this outfit all the time if I lived anywhere other than deep-country Texas.
