Experiment 1: Wrong Place Wrong Time
Ngl, the text below is just my rantings... save yourself and look back at the comic /3
I've mentioned this a few times in ma journals, id do somewhat regular updates there, and I wanna make a sfw webtoon comic.
Got a few ideas for a story i'm hashing out, but over all the thing I need to work on is style and workflow... currently it takes me 3 days to make a page for babysitting, 2 if i'm speedy. Might be able to go a tad faster if I didnt get distracted every hour or soo but idt I can change that just yet.
To see what other people do I did some investigation on the comics I already read over there and have a few ideas on what I could do to speed things up, its just seeing if I can do it and make it look nice.. or i guess be happy with it.
The first idea was to use a monochrome pallet. basicly a load of greys.
Notice the comic "My Dragon Girlfriend" (https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/my-dragon-girlfriend/list?title_no=162918) does this and it looks fantastic! I'm able to see paternation in scales and fur clearly so its not effecting things like the ability to distinguish texture/color difference.. the issue I did find is that idk what colors things are.. like... dragon girl is aparently blue... I didn't know this till I saw a art they did on the side and not in the comic... but, now that I saw it I know, so might just be a thing people learn over time and get context that way.
Went to try this monochrome but found the greys a bit hard, like the life was being sucked outta it. was just dreary. So I pivored and said id be limited to just one color. I saw
Tatsuchan18 does something simular.. they use single colors a lot for charecters, if the scene is a lot of cobalt then it has his blue color. Or when he was being eaten, it was mainly the bears orangey yellow. This also changed the atmosphere a bit for me, blue is calming and yellow is energiesed..
What I did.
Well, I wanted to first just try useing a single color and I chose red, notice I kinda get more motivated when I'm drawing my line arts in red so figured it would help pull me through this... and it kinda did.
I made this in only a couple hours.
Issue i'm seeing tho, is its basicly my normal style just in pure red and now shadows.
its not the worst but it does feel weird and not really thought out, so I might need to change how I do the lineart? or maybe even the panneling? I did try copy dragons 4 box method, but I just couldn't stick with it. I like how the lsat one isn't in a box, shows how the boxes are what happened and this is where we are now... could even add text to only the last bit to emphasise it? idk.
Next time I wanna try useing a grey pallet, might find its a bit dead but could also learn how I can improve the energy in my lines? ill have to get it from somewhere ya know.
Also wanna try mixing up the colors in each pannel, wont change with the chareccters like it does for
Tatsuchan18 but more with the atmosphere. Calming blues and electrifier yellows... two different experiments.
Finaly wanna try some more chibbi or pudgy styleing...
Over all think shadows are staying gone tho. Only see one webcomic, outta the five i've watched, that really use shadows well and they seem to put a heck of a lotta effort.. like she works super hard. might experiment with it but over all. leave that to her :P (its "I want to be a cute anime girl" "https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/i-want-to-be-a-cute-anime-girl/list?title_no=349416" )
