My secrety secret?
SCRIBBLESSSSS :D Just a bunch of short, quick strokes at the top, to make a silhouette of the grass shape, and then the bottom is filled in. I just repeat it with various shades of green to give it depth and shape n_n super cheating, I suppose, but it works, at least for simple icon backgrounds :)
