Gyako was just about to leave his home to go on his wild adventure, though, as he walked out the house realised that he had forgotten something, or to be specific "someone." His mother was outside sitting on a bench talking in the breeze. Gyako pondered whether he was being too selfish to leave his mother behind all alone in the village. Her ears twitched as she heard Gyako walking towards her.
"So, you're ready to go," she gave Gyako a solemn smile which made him feel all the more guilty.
"U-uh, yeah I think I got everything," Gyako said, "but-"
She raises and eyebrow to his hesitation.
"I'm just not sure if I could leave you here by yourself."
Gyako's mother gave out a big laugh which took him off guard.
"Boy, that's what you're worrying about. Don't be. I'll be just fine," she said. "Sit down here, let me tell you a story."
Gyako followed her instructions and took a seat on the bench.
"When I was young," she started, "I fell in love with a cat, he was very brave but very kind and a gentleman. He would take me to so many places, places I would only have dreamed of going. However, over time these places would become more and more dangerous and he didn't want me to get hurt, so we settled down, got a house and looked to raise a family. However, he never really lost that spark for adventure and I cannot blame him for that, he was a cat of the wild as so they say. Therefore, I would always be left at home waiting as he would leave with his friends. However that cat would always promise me that he would come home. He even used to give me a time and date, he was very smart like that. And you know what Gyako?"
"What?" Gyako asked.
"He always kept his promise," she stated. "He would always come home and stay for a while to make up for lost time, tell me a couple of his stories, until it was time for him to go again. That was your father."
"I see," Gyako said.
"You know, you are very much like him" his mother continued, "by the time when he introduced you to his books and stories I knew it was gonna be a matter of time before I had to let you go as well. So run along, have fun, go see the world, I have many friends here in this village so you don't need to worry, just promise me you'll be back someday okay."
Gyako smiled and hugged his mother, " Thanks mom, I promise I'll come home. Hey, I can even write you a few letters so we can keep in touch."
"That would be nice," his mother replied.
And with that Gyako said his last goodbyes to his mother and those that knew him around the village and set off on his adventure. It is a very unpredictable world out there filled with monsters, dangers and the like, he is going to have to be very brave and strong.
