"Can we go on a normal date?" asked Christina.
She had entered the on-campus apartment she shared with her roommate/girlfriend/master Maggie and had started the conversation like that, with no preamble or contextualizing.
"Define normal?" asked Maggie.
"Well, we go on a lot of great dates and then you tease me in public." The gazelle bit her lip. "Which makes the dates so great! But... I want a normal date where you don't plan some fun surprise to spring on me. A picnic, maybe?"
"A picnic?" Maggie raised her eyebrow at that. She wasn't a picnicing type. She had nothing against the concept but picnic blanket and picnic basket and pre-prepared picnic food sounded like a lot of extra steps to eating something outside. She liked eating things outside sometimes but she didn't make it a whole thing.
"My parents sent me some money recently for my grades and I got a new sundress! Perfect for a cozy little picnic!"
"I do like the thought of you in a sundress," Maggie said. She patted the spot next to her on the couch and Christina sat down and leaned into her girlfriend/roommate/master. Maggie "If you want a picnic date, no surprise spice, then we can do that."
Christina kissed Maggie.
"And can you get the picnic basket?"
"Ah, there's always a catch. I can throw some Mach-O-Mart sandwiches and chips into a tote bag. I don't really know my way around..." Maggie strained her mind, trying to think of fancy picnic foods. "Watercress sandwiches. Or even what a watercress is."
"But master, we live in the time of convenience." Christina pulled out a menu for a local sandwich place, Hoagie Bear. "I'll call in an order, all you have to do is pick up the basket on your way to the picnic tomorrow."
--
The spot Christina picked out was nice, if you liked sitting outside on a blanket and eating food. Maggie wasn't sure she could focus on food, since there was something else she wanted to sink her teeth into. Figuratively.
"I'm descended from ambush predators so how come I feel like I've been lured into an ambush?" Maggie asked when Christina joined her.
The gazelle giggled and swished the skirt of her new sundress. The fabric was red and sparkly and was cut to show off Christina's breasts. To Maggie, it almost seemed an evening dress instead of a sundress.
"Is that really a picnic dress?" asked Maggie. "Do you want to find some glitzy dance instead?"
"I wouldn't say no to being taken to more dances~!"
The shoe felt distinctly on the other foot in this interaction, Maggie decided. At least if either of them wore shoes.
"You little minx! How am I supposed to focus on this picnic food when all I can think is 'just wait until I get you home'?"
"I wouldn't say no to that either!" Christina winked. "Oh, but we should eat. Mr. Bear is renowned for his picnic lunches and we'll need the energy!"
Maggie looked around but their picnicing spot was just a little too well traveled to skip right to 'dessert.' And she was hungry...
