<3 QfG. I'm not sure I actually finished any King's Quest games- I played VI the most, and got to a point in the labyrinth (I think?) where I needed something from outside to survive, you couldn't leave, and all my saves were inside the labyrinth. The old adventure games had some great stories, but I do not miss the gameplay.
Yeah, Sierra was pretty bad about that. King's Quest VI had a much more forgiving design than previous ones, actually. King's Quest V had five or six cases I can remember of easily missable items leaving you completely screwed later when you're unable to go back for them, and I think I found out about most of those the hard way as a kid.
Yep, I found that out later. (Apparently in the first one, there was a point where a cat chased a rat across the screen for a few seconds, and if you failed to save the rat, you would lose at a later point, and it wouldn't be clear what the problem was.) I like to imagine that they accidentally left one fail condition in the game, and I managed to find it anyway.
That rat was in King's Quest V, yeah. The one that really ticked me off was the well-hidden mutton that you'd need to avoid starving later. The thing is you also had a pie which you could eat instead, but you needed the pie for a not-exactly-intuitive later puzzle, so if you missed the mutton you were not only screwed, but you'd be trying to find the solution to a completely different obstacle! Argh.
And TV Tropes could tell you so much more.

Thanks! It's a little more obvious to me mostly because I know smudging pencil marks around with your fingertip isn't a technique I normally use. If it takes a cider and a vodka mix and a rum-and-coke to get me to experiment then maybe I should try getting drunk more regularly.

There are some great Kings Quest remakes out there that are done very well and with a lot of respect for the originals...this is one of the best remakes of KQ3.
Great piece, wish I could draw that well sober lol

Most of the complaints revolve around the way Telltale has done things. But yeah, at least one or two people are made that it just exists. Some feel that one of the fan groups that's turned professional has been hard done by out of this deal, and that may have some merit, otherwise it's just the usual kind of thing.
Hmm. I know I've heard complaints that their Back To The Future games were way too easy, but I think Telltale probably recognize that a Back To The Future adaptation and a King's Quest reboot would call out to different markets. Then again, the only firsthand experience I have with them is with season one of Sam & Max, so I can't say I know them that well.
