Three of Swords - Mourning

A heart pierced by three swords--classic imagery, and yet it does not properly convey the loss and grief and longing that this card has always meant for me. Grief is not an abstract ailment of a cartoon heart, but is a real, deep, profound emotion that we have all experienced at some point. This air Jogauni is returning from a battlefield, perhaps--and he is returning alone, though he did not leave that way. His compatriots' swords have no hands to wield them anymore, so they journey home across his back, and the sky portends a desolate and lonely future. Red is, among Jogauni, a color of mourning and ill fortune.
