Yeah, I ain't buying it either. So turn the bunny back or I'm telling Fluttershy. :P
I'm sure a lot of you have seen the flood of arts related to the new My Little Pony show, and I'm one of the fans too. I'm just not good at drawing ponies in their style yet.
It's a fun little show, and I've noticed it's got this neat little mythological beastary. I think we're just about half way through the first season, and I've already seen, in addition to the pegasus and unicorn ponies, a sea serpent, a hydra, a manticore, dragons, a gryphon, gigantic bears made out of star constellations, and a bunch of flying tribbles that eat anything. This week they ran into a cockatrice. When was the last time you saw one of those in anything?
Mostly I wanted to just do a simple color and drawing drill. This is about what six hours start to finish can get me. So I'm super jealous of all you fast artists out there.

Watched an excerpt from the new series. They certainly borrow the music a bit from the old show.
Other comments? Geared towards girls imho, and I can't keep my eyes on it for more than 5 minutes.
My older sister used to actually have their toy pony dolls when we she was much younger.

Oh there is no denying that the show is made for young girls, but it's not banal. That's the biggest difference. The song is kind of a good example of the change. It starts with the old tune, but then switches to a rock beat after the first or second line. It's kind of like the old Warner Bros cartoons where yeah it's geared for children, but it's still enjoyable by adults. Heh, it's even got the first anvil dropping scene I've seen since the Animainiacs.
I could never get into the old show, and never expected to get into this one except checking the art style a little. However, it does seem to have been pretty infectious.

Yeah the new MLP series is kind of addicting, as the show popped up I couldn't what all the fuss was about. But after watching the whole season so far
I have to say for a show advertising toys it's really clever and entertaining, not dumbed down like most of the stuff (regarding the target audience), has great
protagonists and is a prime example how a reboot should be. Can't wait for the next episode.
Ops sorry I guess I got carried away, the bunny isn't supossed to be Angel Bunny ? He would deserve to be turned to stone, that little jerk

Hey, no problem getting carried away. :)
I know it's a half hour ad for toys, just like it's predecessors, but you know I haven't hardly seen any ads for the toys themselves. Only one for Princess Celestia. Back in the day you saw commercials for ponies daily, just like you did for Transformers or G.I.Joe. I'd put this show up as an example that even if it was created to sell stuff, the show doesn't have to be dumb. It almost reminds me of Transformers:Beast Wars. When that came out over a decade ago those toys weren't really being advertised anywhere, but whoever controlled the marketing turned it over to some guys that didn't initially know a thing about Transformers. Those creators just took some of the characters, and made a whole great set of stories around them. I would think that those kinds of shows serve the sellers more than bad ones.
Nah, it's just supposed to be random bunny guy, because it was the first thing that came to mind. I think that Angel is far to ornery to be beat by a single magical beast. You could probably say the idea for this was more super inspired by the show since neither rabbits or the cokatrice are all that morphic.

People that know what they're talking about better than I do have written blogs about 'why' the show is good. That song is a good example of the clever writing. (I think it was the second ep I saw and the part that sealed Since the viewer doesn't know the 'world' they're in or what's going on in the episode it's got to be explained to them somehow. A common way to do it is have one character just tell another one what the viewer needs to know, which a lot of times is kind of dull. That song explained everything you needed to know about the episode, and in a short, entertaining song.
The words coming out of their muzzles sound like conversations people could really have. I never watched the first gen show much. I was a furry back then, even though there was no fandom yet, so I was predispositioned to like it. However, I just couldn't get into it. I've watched a few episodes on YouTube last month, and I noticed that a lot of time was either spent developing whatever villain was there today, or Meggan. In fact in the few eps I saw Meggan seemed to make a lot of decisions. Some versions of Transformers has this problem too. They made the bots almost guest stars in their own show. When I watch these shows I want to watch the ponies, or bots, do stuff. Not bad guys that will never be back again, or non central characters. It's ok once in a while, but not every episode.
Here they tried the novel idea of making the ponies enjoyable to watch. Probably helps that they have a fan making the show.

Yeah I guess it could be expected that we furrys would love or at least would be interessted in the show / the characters, but
the huge adult (and especially male) audience is something nobody could have predicted. My older sister had some of the first
mlp toy, but naturally I was more interested in the "male" stuff like Transformers etc. The "furryness" did come a lot later, since over here
most people don't have a clue what that even means. And I only discouvered it thanks to the vast space that is the Internet.
And sorry again for derailing your topic.
The FA admins should really add an edit feature, it's not like we are living in the stone age of the internet again.
I even bought a Bronie Dr. Whoof T-Shirt, I guess it's already too late for me
