Done for someone who wanted a poem featuring a female guardian angel as the hero.
The spinning steel and fiery sparks
Lift steam up from the blackened tar,
While floods of doubt, like waiting sharks
Surround my crumpled Chevy car.
A crush and thud, my head swings back
Against the waiting leather square;
From both my legs I hear a crack
As bones and muscle start to tear.
The lights swim fast before my eyes,
Of other cars still moving strong.
Fear must be telling my brain lies
For I have noticed something's wrong.
This car of mine has only one,
Just one belt each for every seat
And yet before my ride was done
I felt pressure where two would meet.
The skin was soft and clothed in gold,
With warm embrace and fingers tight.
Robed in a dress, both brave and bold
You kept me safe with all your might.
Two arms of steel across my heart,
A gentle whisper in my ear:
"Of you I'll always be a part;
Each day you wake, I'm always near."
And as the car came to a stop
Steam rose from underneath the hood.
I watched the little raindrops plop
On hair defined like grains in wood.
With slender arm so soft and light,
And gown spun finer than a hair,
You smiled at me, expression bright,
And drifted up into the air.
Out of the car I stumbled fast,
And sinking down into the earth
I found some proof for what had passed;
A feather white and pure as mirth.
You saved my life and then you flew
On feathered wings that comfort bade;
My angel maiden, thanks to you
I can enjoy all God has made
The spinning steel and fiery sparks
Lift steam up from the blackened tar,
While floods of doubt, like waiting sharks
Surround my crumpled Chevy car.
A crush and thud, my head swings back
Against the waiting leather square;
From both my legs I hear a crack
As bones and muscle start to tear.
