For vacation this year, Remy's parents had decided on Las Vegas. They would fly back out West for a few days to see what the city had to offer. Though they didn't plan on doing a lot of gambling.
After a long flight, their plane touched down at the airport. They took a taxi to their hotel and settled in.
Once they were done unpacking, Remy and his parents took a bus ride up to the Hoover Dam, located at the Arizona/Nevada border. It was the largest dam in the country.
When they arrived, everyone departed the bus and went straight to the dam.
Remy didn't mind returning to the Southwest, as long as it didn't get too hot. He brought his cowboy hat with him to provide some shade, as well as to give him that Western feeling.
He and his family looked out in awe at the view of the enormous reservoir held by this massive barrier of concrete.
Remy looked down and saw just how high up they were. He looked around and noticed the pale-colored rocks where the water line was.
A guide came by and gave some interesting facts about the dam.
"The dam was completed in 1936," she told the visitors. "At the time, it was the largest concrete structure on earth. It is 726 feet high and 1,244 feet long. Over 87 million cubic feet of concrete was used in its construction. Along with 582 feet of cooling pipes. It took thousands of workers five years to complete. Sadly 138 died during its construction. But the dam was completed nearly two years ahead of schedule."
Remy was able to catch some of the facts the guide was giving on the dam's history. He was genuinely impressed with it.
Soon it was time to return to the bus and go back to the city, much to Remy's relief. He was hot and thirsty after the trip up there.
Even though he found the dam impressive, he still wanted to return to their room and cool off.
Soon it would be sundown and the city of Las Vegas would come to life for them to see.
