Dream State Acrocanthosaurus
Enjoy this sleepy Acro : ) This seriously is more of a dream state painting, as I was reeling from a flu while painting it. This was a lot of fun if I'm honest. I was initially starting this painting with Ville Sinkkonen's art in mind, but it ended up a bit more James Gurney.

Backgrounds are a huge topic, and really depend on what you want for the image in question. If it's a landscape, then looking up references for the type of environment you want to depict.
As far as shading goes, I can try to summarize it as it all being dependent on where your light source is coming from, the material that you are rendering. It's a subtle and delicate thing that you need to have a grasp of the volume of the object that you are shading, and how the light might wrap around the object. It's complicated!
I hope that this word salad might help a little, anyway ^^'
