Real media version
Decided to try an experiment and I used this picture for it. Came out okay.
The digitally colored version and info about the image is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5315709
This is the linework for the earlier uploaded image colored in copics and colored pencils with a tiny bit of gold added in for effect.
This will probably be at the FWA art show, but if you would like to snatch it up I'll let it go for $45. No prints will be made.

I'll bite... it's like professional sports, only more manly... baseball, only you don't hit a ball you hit the other team... it makes American football look wimpy and unmanly... if you think you can jump for a slam dunk I bet you can jump for a lion... like soccer except you skip the game and get right to the brawling... hockey comes close, just take away the refs and play dirty in all the fights... and if you win, you get all the trappings of a professional athlete...
Of course than there was the whole bloodthirsty populace thing and Rome's descent into barbarism... but they had gladiators, man!

Quite an interesting experiment. If I had to choose, I'd say the digital one was the better one, but I especially like how the poster came out in the traditional version. The digital version is more atmospheric, but I would say that it's because of how the background came out. The main strength of the traditional piece, as is the case with practically all traditional pieces, is the texture of the medium, which gives it a sort of liveliness that's hard to replicate with digital media. Either way, awesome work, and I hope this sells well at FWA!
