So for my Intro to Sculpture class our next project is to make a face/head out of cardboard "squares" (more like 4 sided polygons). So, being the loving Pokemon fan that I am I decided that I am going to make a roaring Nidoking head, in the style of a wall mount (and believe me, I will make a plaque for it and hang it up).
Anyway, since I'm working from a ficticious reference, with no real good 3D references (I've never been a real fan of the stadium/battle revolution version. The large capacity of the games just makes it so that not enough detail can be added) I decided to make a version in Maya 2011 to work from.
I'm in a class where we are working in Maya anyway, so it worked out great! I didn't add the teeth in this one because I couldn't make them look how I want in the program, and also, since the final will be made in real world material, I don't have to worry about making all the little polygons nice and perfect and hollow.
Anyway, my side view design is on the right, though I like the proportions of the maya version. I didn't want to include part of the shoulders or chest if I could avoid it, and with this rendering I don't need to. =)
I also didn't draw a front view because I couldn't draw it as I wanted, so I just sort of fiddled with it in Maya until I got a look that I was pleased with.
I might make the real sculpture's forehead/top of head a little broader though...
Crits welcome. =)
