Back in December, I was in a discussion about firearms silencers on the Hi-Point forums, and I made the point that the general public might be more receptive to the concept if silencers were presented as "gun mufflers".

I think you guys don't market your guns properly. I want to do a company for shootie-bang-bangs sometime! There should be seasonal designer colours - new shells to update the looks on old guns year by year. and the LAST think anyone should want to do, Dahling, is go onto a shooting range with somethng that's just sooo 'last year'!

I agree. Many perceive, do to movies, that sound suppressors make guns super quiet. In reality all they do is make bigger guns sound like smaller ones. Or they make the sound indistinguishable entirely.
The few notable exceptions are guns like the MP5SD and that is only quiet when used with 147 grn subsonic 9mm cartridges. They are banned in my state because people used to use them for poaching the massive deer populations. A public service if you ask me!

Back in the day, you'd see ads for small engine mufflers in the backs of gun magazines, These mufflers inevitably came sized for common handgun muzzles, for some reason. Then the ATF invented something called 'constructive possession' of a firearms silencer, so no more of that.
"Gun mufflers" is a good marketing concept. Now, are you going to also have 'tuned' gun-mufflers, like some of the Thrush ones? (You know, so the muzzle-blast will sound louder?)
