Little Tales -- Gen's Con Tips #1
I've always tried to be a positive and constructive person and honestly was terrified I'd come across as bitchy in this comic. So let me say here that the negative things are the two biggest complaints I've heard from dealers in general, just like the two positive things are the two biggest "OMG I LOVE THIS PERSON" events I've heard from dealers.
So allow me to state that this is not a passive aggressive snark at someone in particular. In fact I'm going to bet that a lot of my artist/dealer friends are going to comment here and say how this is a general gripe for them. (And folks? If you can cite specific examples, please do not name names.)
And other folks who always wanted to know how to get on a dealer's good side, I really hope this helps.
And for additional help, I have a journal entry here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2124429/
Comic was inked traditionally in my sketchbook then scanned into MangaStudio to add panel borders, tones, and lettering.

I can so relate to that second tip! I always try my best to pay for any small things I buy, at any given place, with either as small bills as I can, or even the exact price in little bits of cash like coins and small bills, and I found it has made a whole lot of people love me, hee! I've sometimes been selling things as well, and it does indeed suck when you get paid for something that costs like 2 bucks with a fifty-dollar bill =P
And I wouldn't worry about coming off as bitchy in this little comic, dear. In fact, it sounds like a very general combination of pros and contras, and you're bringing them across is a very calm and good-natured way with a good explanation

Great tips and the last panel is so true everywhere nowadays! >.<;; I already have a "survival pack" list of goodies to have stashed away for the con, ready to go! Lets see, stuff with caffeine....more caffeinated thingies...umm...sugar, caffeine and oh! Nutella (laced with caffeine, lol)!!! ^___^
Not that I know of...but you can add this to it! x3 http://www.muscleandstrength.com/st.....ne-powder.html Heheee. ^^
A lot of this is common sense... Not being in the way of other customers, and a dealer at a table (as opposed to a big store) is going to need small change.
But it's easy to forget in the excitement, and this is a good few pointers for the most important stuff - gets you on the right track of thought for avoiding other mistakes too, I'd say. :)
(Doesn't seem bitchy - things like blocking the table are pretty thoughtless behaviors, and it was addressed in a quite civil note, I think.)
That last one was a compulsive habit of mine. Ugh. XD I think I've cured that.

Sometimes there are no gophers to be had, and often times table space is at a premium and you can't really have much int he way of snacks stashed away. I try to, but not every artist does. Not to mention that drinks stashed under a table for long periods of time often get warm, and sometimes a cold drink and hot food is nice.
The food thing is ultra true. Plus presents of snacks are good too.
lizardbeth was thrilled when I handed over my own stash of chocolate covered coffee beans.
And I've found Americans absolutely love TimTams. I brang about 10 packets for gifts from home (Australia) to AC08 and they were gone by the second day.

The last is appropriate in SO many ways!
If I see you at AC, I probably won't have any money because I deliver pizza for a living and heard "I'd give you a tip, but I barely had enough for the pizza" way too often. Which, in that circumstance, is very annoying be cause it says "I know you're supposed to be tipped, but I don't care!"

Regarding the last panel, a lot of us (myself included) just feel guilty about looking at your stuff and having no intention of making a purchase. I don't want to raise someone's hopes and dash them. But I think the problem is compounded by some artists who try to put on a sales pitch and come across as if they're begging.
Regarding panel 2...That looks familiar!

I'll say from personal experience that some dealers really overdo it though to the point of aversion. It's more prevalent at mainstream conventions, but their behavior is akin to a carnival hawker who all but demands you come over or plays some kind of trick on you to get you to stop.
