It’s a tad stereotypical to assume a crocodile would like to swim recreationally in the offseason. Still, grasping at straws to know the faintest scrap of information about his personal life among years of mystery, it’s the only thing a room of Spirits reporters could come up with to ask him about.
“No,” he rumbled. “But Fuzzy likes boating in the offseason.”
He calls himself Fuzzy, and so does everyone else. No one knows why. There isn’t a tuft of fluff on the scaled creature. His teeth are sharp and his gaze penetrating. The more curious among the media asked his teammates from his breakout season with the Prehistorics, who assumed he received the title from his previous teammates, who assumed he received the title from his previous teammates, who assumed he received the title from his previous teammates, and so on. He came over as a teenager for the sole purpose of baseball. Once rumours cross seas, they tend to die on the grapevine. Did he get his name there?
That question made him pause. He looked on in deep consideration.
“Fuzzy thinks he was born with it.” Having just signed on with Candosa, he chose that moment to fit on his brand new baseball cap and show those teeth to the camera. “But now he is ready to win.”
In the five years since, Fuzzy maintained his impeccable stats en route to three world championship appearances with the Spirits: two of them victories. With a fourteen year playoff streak and thirty years avoiding relegation to lower leagues, the Spirits are so far the most dominant team of the century. On a star-studded cast that found itself the emergent rival of the Ivories—a team as old as the sport itself—Fuzzy is far from their biggest contributor. He shows up, does his job well, and quietly returns to his home in the Hartsby Mountains. It’s a strange place for a crocodile to gravitate to. Nor are there any lakes warm enough to sail.
Fuzzy has yet to take questions on the matter.
