After his latest (and first) adventure, Henry and Hugo's journey is able to continue within the realm of the living. Now, when things aren't within Henry's realm of comfort or control, Hugo the Gorilla is more than willing to intervene—and though he was once a wild gorilla, he's learned a thing or two since stepping foot in the world of sophont beings. It's a shame not all those around him understand that the laws of the jungle follow Hugo wherever he goes...
Henry and Hugo were enchanted as part of a Fey game, brought together through wild magic: Hugo, an emotionally unstable wild and savage silverback who brought harm to the family he should have instinctually protected, was joined with Henry, a young and hapless farmer of no ambition, blissfully ignorant to the world at large. The pair of Fey gambled to see which of the two beings would dominate the other, one believing Hugo's barbaric savagery would dominate the man, the other believing Henry's serene appreciation for life would temper the gorilla.
Things started off in a bad way, when Hugo immediately took over Henry and slaughtered a group of travelers, one of whom was a son of wealth and prestige. When their body reverted back to Henry, the farmer was charged with the crime and sentenced to imprisonment within a horrific place known as The Pit. Yet, during their time within, Henry was guarded by Hugo, protecting himself as much as the human whom he shared a body with. Uncertain whether the death of one would be the death of both, the pair were forced to work together, when they were selected to perform a discreet mission by the state—in which expendable prisoners would be easily disavowed should anything unsavory commence or be discovered.
Joined with other prisoners-turned-mercenaries, the quest would eventually succeed—though not before the two were brought into contact with the very same Fey who enchanted them. Meeting them and speaking with them, after many days of traveling together, and several years of imprisonment, the Fey game ended in a remarkable conclusion: Henry and Hugo both accepted each other's strengths and flaws, and learned there was more to be gained by working together, than being apart. The game was up, and neither Fey could declare victory, and in light of this surprising outcome, the Fey allowed Henry and Hugo (and the rest of the party) to peaceably continue on their adventure...though the enchantment binding the pair together would remain.
Now the two travel the world as a Fractured being: a Human and Cleric of Chauntaea, and a Gorilla Barbarian of nature's wrath—a shared respect for nature being an easy foundation for the pair of adventurers who switch between their external forms as necessary.
