It's been a long time since I've written anything pretty long. I wanted to get into longer writing again, and that Kobold Kare image gave me an idea. I hope it's not uh, too bad. Enjoy, I guess.
“B-but after last time...” A shorter fox, named Alescpius, stuttered out.
“It won’t be like last time. There're no dragons involved, nor any mages. Just a simple bandit group.” A much, much taller Lizard spoke down to vulpine, eyes glaring down at the fox.
“You didn’t let me finish... M-my fath- Ahem! The king...” Ales looked around in the bar they were in, hoping no one heard that, “won’t let me go with you any more, Demetri... I’m not even really supposed to be here...” The fox adverted his gaze from the Reptile, his ears drooping.
“That pompous fool, Prometheus? You can’t be serious. You’re an adult, Aegle; He can’t control you forever. Especially not when you’re with me—I'll deal with him, if it ever really becomes a problem.” The reptile waved away the thought with a snort. King or not, he didn’t care.
“...T-that’s not... my name... a-and please don’t say anything bad about him—he really does just have the best intentions in mind...”
“And what, did he tell you not to allow that? Come on, you used to love that little pet name. I’m not going to let your bastard of a father really try to tear us apart!” Demetri bangs his fist on the table, less out of anger, more out of frustration.
“J-just the king! N-not my father at all! A-and you’re just a friend aren’t you? Ha—h-aha!” The fox desperately trying preserve his reputation with sweat beading down his brow.
“...” The lizard shakes his head, “Hey! Everyone!” Everyone in the bar turns, as the big lizard grabs the fox, picking him up and turning him around to face the crowd as a panicked look appears on his face. “This, is the King’s son; Alescpius. He’s also my lover! He also makes love to me, every, single, night.”
The crowd pauses as they take in the info, with Ales’ beet red face being the center piece of the silence. One man calls out- “Heh! I’ll drink to that. You’ve got a good lad there!” He raises his mug and everyone turns back to their drinks.
“See? Not a soul has any reason to care, here. You’re safe, especially with me here.” The reptile puts his hands on the fox’s shoulders as he stares into his eyes, “I need you with me, Aegle; Your healing prowess is the stuff of legend! Your father can’t keep you at home forever to become some priest; I won’t allow it!”
The fox’s face was still massively heated from before but he sighs as he processes the words, “...If it’s really that important... I’m not even that good of a white mage—I’m only useful for healing... That’s why my father wants me to be a priest, anyway...” He shakes his head, finally able to look up at the lizard.
The reptile’s gaze got a bit sterner; his eyebrows get closer together. “Don’t doubt your talent because of him, I know you can do anything you put your mind to.” He nods with a smile, “but it’s good to know you’re in, Since I already ordered our drinks!” The reptile chuckles a bit.
“Hah... Y-yeah!” The fox nervously chuckles, he loved Demetri, but... supporting him always seemed to end up badly. Hopefully this time, Things'll be different.
“I’d say... We’re swiftly approaching the creature’s cave, now.”
Ales turns to Demetri, giving him a questioning look as he walks down the grassy path with him, “A-anyway—what ARE we going after?”
“Well, this thing’s apparently damn big. No one knows what species it is, but if we bring it back alive it’s worth its weight in gold.” The lizard closed his eyes as he thought through what the animal could actually be.
“Mmmm... Just try describing it to me! Maybe knights aren’t, but mages are required learn nearly the entire creature compendium, I’m sure I could figure it out!”
“Alright. Well it’s White, as I already said, huge, it’s uh, apparently got wings ya can see through... and uh...”
“A-are you sure it’s not a dragon? It might just look odd...” Ales starts to shake a bit, his will faltering as he thinks through what happened last time.
“The more I think about it, the more I think that bastard lied. But we can deal with it, no problem.” Demetri nods, his strides still just as confident even in spite of his fox partners slowing movements.
“W-w-well I-I t-think it could be a gigantic cloth-eater! Ha-haha...”
“The little annoying buggers? Hah! Tell you what, if it’s one of those I owe you 10,000 gil.” The lizard chuckled to himself as he shook his head, proceeding to pull his sword out with a smile, “By the by, I’d suggest readying any spells you’ve got up those sleeves. We're here.”
The adventuring party approaches the cave, the dark cavern hiding the coveted animal deep inside it’s dark bowels. The reptile waltzes in with nary a care, nor for the creature, or anything that may be in this cave. The fox however warily follows behind, his magic the only defense against the troubles that lay inside.
“...Do you mind if I make a light? I-I'm not scared but it could help with transversing in here...” The fox’s voice trembled out as he tried convincing the taller reptile.
“Heh. Need a night light? I thought just staying near me would make ya feel safe enough.” Demetri walks without fear, even in the eerie pitch-black darkness, “You might scare this thing with the bright lights you make... But if you need it.”
“Thank the divines!” Ales said under his breath Runic marks appearing out of thin air as he speaks the words, “Alu Luminae!” Causing a bright light to shine! The entire cave being bathed in light!
It’d been one weird damn day for Domiel. Wake up on a farm, get poked in the butt by a very tiny farmer and his miniature pitchfork, crush him accidentally with your(?) tail, run around for three hours in what’s apparently the world’s largest renaissance fair (run by weirdly small people...) Then end up in a cave after they chase you around for using your fire breath! (Which he didn’t even know he had!) Safe to say, something was up. (And it wasn’t just his size.)
“I’ve gotta figure where I even am, first.” The moth, (seeming less and less like one with each passing minute,) spoke as he looked left in right, head down in the cool waters of the cavern, hiding in the darkness. They’re small tools and stuff may not’ve hurt, but it was scary being attacked by that many people! “If those tiny people went away... I think I can find a way out of her-”
“Alu Luminae!”
“Ah!” Domiel said softly as he put his massive paws up to his face, covering his eyes as a vast amount of light swept across the entirety of the cave from around the corner, as two shadows appear on an opposite wall. It seems like all the tiny people weren’t gone. “oh no, oh no!” The moth(?) started shivering in place as he lifted a paw, he may have been bigger, but with how many there were it was only a matter of time until he was captured or something... and then they’d kill him... or uh... keep him as a pet... probably. ‘Is there really no way out of here? This cave is a death trap!’ Domiel’s inner voice shivers as he says the words to himself. Cowering as he accepted his... huh?
Little eyes peeked up at the big moth. He didn’t notice them, in the dark, but as the light flooded the cavern their small colorful bodies were a sight, but if these lizards were anything like the tiny people from before, it was time to run. “Eep! Y-you guys won’t hurt me will you?” The moth quietly said to the small lizards; Their large beady eyes not portraying any emotion they may be feeling. But their words do.
“You... ‘fraid, big master?” A red one speaks out.
“What? ‘Master’?”
“We--” A blue lizard points to himself, “Take care of intruders, master!”
“Huh?” Domiel’s head tilts as he processes the small lizard’s words. At least they were friendly... but what did they plan on doing?
“Rally, ‘bolds!” The red one spouts out loudly. Seems he’s the leader. “Charge as one! Get interlopers!!!” The weapon-less Kobolds rally together as they storm out to the intruding duo.
“What in the hell?” Demetri yells out surprised.
“Interlopers! You in big masters cave! What you say?!” The leader of the lizards, red, shouts in the dark cave, voice echoing across the entirety of the cavern. Evidently, these lizards weren’t happy.
“...What?” Demetri scratches his head while thinking over whatever these small ones are saying in their backwards version of common tongue.
“I think they meant, ‘What say you’. Being Kobolds I’m sure they don’t usually speak common tongue.” Ales giggles to himself, “Although it’s quite cute when kobold’s try Hehe.”
“So that’s what they are. No wonder they look like me a little.” The bigger lizard stares down at the dozen or so smaller lizards, “Although, ‘Interloper’ is peculiar. What’s that for?”
“Mmm, yes... that IS odd. Normally, Kobold’s wouldn’t be so protective over just a cave.” Ales’ eyes widen a bit, “Although... If there’s an um... Dragon in this cave... that’s what they could be protecting... b-but there isn’t one here, right?”
“Yes! We defeat you for big dragon! Be ready, dumb big people!” The kobold’s ready their claws and fangs, being the only weapons they have against the fox and lizard. The time for talk was over.
“You are some cute little guys, but I’ll be damned if you’re going to stop me from capturing that dragon! Come on!” Demetri beats against his chest savagely, taking out his axe from behind his back and charging into the ‘bolds headfirst.
“Ah... You always rush in so fast Demetri! I can’t-” Ales pauses as he looks around him. Demetri may have rushed into a lot of them, but it certainly wasn’t all of them; 3 out of the 12 Kobold’s were lying in wait for the larger lizard's advance, probably while they were talking. “D-d-d-demetri! They're really closing in on me here!” The fox yelps to his lizard companion, who unfortunately ignores him while he fights 9 Kobold’s at once, the normally just medic would have to fend for himself for once. “I’m sure we can come to a compromise, c-can't we?” The fox’s worried eye fly around, attempting to keep track of all the little ‘bolds.
“...yes... You come quiet, we not hurt.” The other kobold’s nod.
“That wasn’t... I don’t really have a choice, do I?” The fox’s body slumps. “W-well... It’s not fair to Demetri if I don’t fight, so--!” His hands start to glow, but he’s promptly stopped as he’s tackled to the ground by all 3.
“We get one!” The kobold’s yell to the larger group, tying up the fox while they’re piled-on top of him.
“The hell?” The lizard turns, taking his eyes off of the horde he’s fending off. “Dammit! Did they really-”
“And we get other!!” The Kobold’s take full advantage of their distracted opponent, tripping the bigger lizard and piling all of their body weight on him. Despite all his strength, this many bodies stockpiled on top of him and holding him down would prevent escape.
“Dammit, you’re kidding!” The lizard struggled against his captor’s, but as they start to tie him down, escape starts becoming harder, to nigh impossible. “Let go you little mongrels! Get off!”
Demetri’s wiggles are ignored as Ales’ tied up form is picked up and thrown over to the big lizard’s side, the two intruders being remarked like prizes by all the Kobold eyes in the area, their superior numbers coming out on top in the end. “Raaah! You two in biggest trouble!” Red yells with vigor. “You know what you do to big master!? He hide cause you mean!”
“What are you even talking about?”
“Shush, mean big man!” A blue kobold speaks over the bigger lizard, an evil, smug smirk appearing on his face. “You get punished for big mean! And those who do the big mean, end up a big meal for ‘bolds!~” The small lizard opens his salivating maw wide, the inside absolutely coated in drool; his small, sharp tongue licking over his fangs and coating them in more of clear fluid. It seems like these kobolds were hungry, too. The situation was going from bad to worse, and they hadn’t even seen this ‘big master’ yet. This was going to be one long, disgusting day. Ales’ could feel (and smell blegh,) it.
