COMMENTS OVER FAVOURITES, PLEASE. ART THIEVES UNWELCOME.
"Mightiness incarnate, steel and sorcery transplanted into pure ironwood! Forge-wrought metal replaced with the thunder-kissed oak! I am the servant of the servant of the forest, and I shall feed henceforth only on the heathens who stand in his way! Praise Rillifane!"
A gift for my father as part of his DnD game. This was once a mystic skull-shaped sentient mace known colloquially as "Smashy" by the party that found him at the bottom of a well after he lay there for a few centuries, no doubt some prior would-be hero's prized tool. He was tough and crushing although for whatever reason his owners rarely landed attacks, and upon slaying a foe he would promptly swallow and store their very essence within.
Without battle to sate him for so long ("I smash, therefore I am"), he went a bit loopy until he was taken by their cleric of nature and taught the beauty of violence in the name of faith. But as danger grew in Barovia, the cleric knew he needed a stronger tool. Collecting mystic reagents, lightning-bound oak including from a tree all but atomized by the breath of a soulbound blue dragon, the party performed a powerful ritual and, to activate him proper, duelled a dreaded werewolf captain of a great vampire lord's army (you know the one). Upon swallowing that beast's soul in a gruelling fight that very nearly killed the cleric in the process, the reformed (literally and figuratively) cudgel awoke, stronger than ever in his master's noble hands... now as Waldseele Willowthump.
This was a hell of a fun test of pencil textures to do in general and I'm glad it turned out so epic. I just had to share it~ I drew reference from a lot of cultural totems, as well as just a pinch from the classic Rod of Ruin design.

I'm most glad to hear it~ The rough notes for the design were purely based on my dad's descriptions of the animal stylings, the "raven's beak like a spike", the boar's head on top for certain, and the particular runes. The rest was just trying to make everything fit... I think it went well.
