Golden Leo (Gooruden Reo) was the 41st Robot Kaiju deploy by the Zelans, serving as the Monster of the Week in Ep.36 of the Dino Mecha Gaiking anime: "Burn! Golden Leo".

_Appearance and Abilities_
Continuing both the themes of making Monsters resembling Earth Fauna, as well been an ancient Weapon left behind by the Zelans with, needless to say, arbitrary requirements needed to activate its full powers, Golden Leo is a Dark Horror Monster made in the image of (well) a lion that comes in two forms; the standard Lion Form, whose Mane burst into Flames when under attack, and its Dark Horror Monster form – which normal for this show when it comes to size – can either as big as Gaiking or the Daiku Maryu. However, for some forsaken reason, the Zelans design Golden Leo with the arbitrary requirement to consume 1000 humans to activate its Giant Robot Form, although oddly, the last person it consumes is a Zelan Dark Knight. Golden Leo was left to the care of an Titauni Tribe for a thousand years as their deity messenger of their God (The Zelans), and by the time it face the Daiku Maryu team, it was in the care of the reign of Queen Yuka; though in reality the Monster was under the control of the Medicine Woman, who was a Zelan Dark Knight in Disguise the entire time.

Golden Leo in its normal form resembles a standard Lion, albeit with great jumping abilities and endurance, as well mauls like a Lion thus, but when under attack, or require to protect the Ruler of the Tribe, Leo would burst into Flames, destroying the threat. It sport a Brown Furn with a Yellow Mane.

Dark Horror Monster Golden Leo is activated when consuming 1000 human lives revealing its true form (or just lives – this is confusing because the last one was the Zelan, who describes himself as a "Ningen"(Human); a Giant Robotic lion with a Red and Yellow flame derived Mane; its body been fully Lavender in Color, with yellow bronze in its Abdomen and joint points; purple shade surround its yellow eyes and sport a red crest on the forehead. A fireball adorn the tip of its tail.

Despite this, it would not sport much in new abilities beyond the ones in its standard Lion Form: Mauling, Scratching and Speed, albeit increased for its giant size. However, It's mane would burst in flames and redirect to its enemy, as well the Four tip Red star located on the fore head would absorb the Hydro Blazer attack.

Golden Leo joins a group of Dark Horror Monsters destroyed by the Daiku Maryu itself.

_Story_
When a group of Poachers committing illegal hunting near Mt. Kilimanjaro come under attack by a Lion that burst its mane in flames, team Daiku Maryu travels to Africa to locate and see if its another Black Horror Monster, taking past experiences and all. Their arrival is witness by a tribal woman – Queen Yuka – mounting the very Lion the heroes seek. As they search the surrounding savanna for the beast, they spot the pair; the heroes break up an approach carefully but Yuka and Lion give them the slip into the Jungle, with Sanshiro following them: he gets to witness as the Lion saves the woman from a giant snake and burns it with its own powers. Golden Leo almost goes after Sanshiro, but is called back by Yuka when Daimonji and the others show up.

That night, at their camp, the team discuss the particularity of the animal, as well the woman that rides it, not realizing their camp had been surrounded by her tribe, and by morning, all except for Yamagatake and Hachiro, are captured and taken away. After been tied to poles, with a ceremony performed by the Medicine Woman, the elder suggest the Queen to sacrifice the heroes to their God by burning, as punishment of modern man's defilement of the harmony of nature. When Sanshiro asks her about the Dark Horror Monster, Yuka replies she knows of them, having been a student in Paris for a time, fomenting a hate for Modern Civilization due to the damage this has brought to her land in past and present, when she begins to choke. The Old Medicine woman gives her a potion that eases her pain, though Fan-Li takes notice of this with suspicion. From the brush, Yamagatake and Hachiro watch and the child comes up with a plan.

As the tribe begin to set the wood and all diplomacy having failed, Yamagatake comes swinging from the trees in vines like Tarzan – and for some reason on his underwear – and takes out some of the Tribes men, though it goes as one expects to go his luck, while Hachiro releases Sanshiro and the others. In the brief scuffle, Sanshiro takes Yuka hostage which forces the tribe back, the Heroes return to their ship with the Queen and the potion, where – on Fan Li's request - a study finds Drug derive from a Herb which addles the senses, the pilot explaining he has seen this as a narcotic when he lived in Hong Kong.

After she is given an Antidote, Yuka wakes up the following morning with her senses back to normal where they explain everything to her; at that moment, Golden Leo and the Medicine Woman arrive, the latter revealing to be a Zelan Knight, who gives himself as the thousand sacrifice to the beast and it unveils its true Power, transforming into its Dark Horror Monster form and proceeds to combat the Daiku Maryu, out maneuvering it with its greater speed. The Monster then runs with the ship following it, only to fall in a massive quicksand trap deployed by the Generals; thus, Gaiking is deployed to face the Beast before going fully under. The mecha fires it Hydro Blazer though this is adsorbed by Leo and redirecting the fire of its mane onto the Gaiking – the Mecha fires its Death Fire (in Open Face Mode) though its overpowered by Leo's Fire Mane hitting the Mecha and falling onto the ground; after using Counter Punch to no effect and then tossing the monster to the side a Mountain, the Beast pounces on Gaiking and tries to crush the cockpit with its fangs, stabbing Sanshiro in the torso (HOW DAFUK HE SURVIVES THIS? I HAVE NO CLUE!).

Meanwhile, the Daiku Maryu lies under threat of been crushed by the pressure of the Quicksand around as it solidifies with a coagulant, thus Miracle Drills are deployed to open a path way for the ship to escape, coming out of a Waterfall as Sanshiro tosses the Monster off of him with Death Eye. Seeing the Daiku Maryu, Golden Leo jumps to attack the ship, but Pete Deploys Giant Cutter and the monster is dissected in half with the blade, the two flaming pieces fall to the ground exploding on impact, disposing of the Beast for good.

After the battle, the team gift Yuka a Lion Cub, with Daimonji promising to make sure to tell other to not destroy Africa's Natural Habitat. Yuka bids farewell to the team as Daiku Maryu departs for home.
